Motorola Symbol MC9190/MC92N0 ultra-durable handheld mobile computer has two common operating systems, one for Windows CE and the other for Windows Mobile. The following describes the warm boot and cold boot of the two operating systems.

Windows CE system
A warm boot will close all running programs and restart the device.
A cold boot will also reboot the device, but it will erase all the records and entries stored in RAM, keep the data in the flash or memory card intact. It also restores formatting, preferences, and other settings to factory defaults.

Perform a warm boot
Press and hold the Power key for about 5 seconds. Release the power key when the device begins to perform a warm boot.

Perform a cold boot
A cold boot restarts the device and erases all user storage records and entries that are not held in flash (Application and Platform folders) or in the memory card. Perform a cold boot only if the warm boot does not resolve the issue.
1. Press the main battery release button on the device to eject the battery from the device.
2. After ejecting half of the battery, press and release the scan trigger switch and power key at the same time.
3. Push the battery so that it is fully inserted into the device. When the battery is fully inserted, you will hear a tick.
4. The device will be initialized.
5. Calibration screen.

Windows Mobile system
A warm boot will reboot the device and shut down all running programs.
A cold boot also restarts the device, shuts down all running programs, and installs some drivers.
Data stored in flash memory or in a memory card will not be lost. Perform a warm boot first, which will reboot the device and save all stored records and entries, and if the device still does not respond, perform a cold boot.

Perform a warm boot
Press and hold the Power key for about 5 seconds. Release the power keys when the device begins to perform a warm boot.

Perform a cold boot
A cold boot will reboot the device, the operating system and all applications will be restarted, and the file store will be preserved. Perform a cold boot only if the warm boot does not resolve the problem.
1. Press the red power key to display the Power Key Action window.
2. Tap Safe Battery Swap. The LED indicator bar lights up in red.
3. Press the main battery release button on the device to eject the battery from the device.
4. After ejecting half of the battery, press and release the scan trigger switch and power key at the same time.
5. Push the battery to fully reinsert it into the device. When the battery is fully inserted, you will hear a click.
6. The device will be initialized.
